Barbados

The company I work for, Automattic, is a distributed company. That means our employees live and work all over the world. A few times each year, we meet up to spend time working and having fun together. I’ve just returned from a meetup in Barbados, where we worked on the email subscription feature of WordPress.com and Jetpack.

Bearded Men in Barbados

The Portugese came to Barbados en route to Brazil. It was at this time that the island was named Los Barbados (bearded-ones) by the Portugese explorer Pedro a Campos.

We spent most of our days working at the hotel, taking breaks to go swimming, and venturing into town in the evening for dinner. On our last full day, we spent a few hours on a small catamaran and then toured the Mount Gay Rum Distillery. Here are some a ton of photos from the trip!

Want to see some more? Check out my coworker/friend Steve’s photos here. Want to be a part of this, and help make the web a better place for more than a billion people each month? We’re hiring.

  1. I’m getting a real case of beard envy – never been able to grow a proper one. Excellent beardmanship! Oh yeah, and a touch of job envy too! 😀
